Sarah Coventry History:
Sarah Coventry jewelry was designed for a new style of consumer that emerged in America after World War II. Sarah Coventry, Inc., began in 1949 as an off-shoot of the parent company C.H. Stuart, Inc., a privately established "direct-to-the-consumer marketing" company, with headquarters located in Newark, New York. "Founded on the principles of small-town, small-business America" and devoted to "hard work, quality products, complete customer satisfaction, and concern for others."
Sarah Coventry jewelry became the world's largest direct seller of costume jewelry, and an acknowledged fashion leader in contemporary jewelry, during the 1950s, '60s, '70s and early '80s. From 1949 to 1984, Sarah Coventry attained success worldwide by offering a wide array of fine fashion jewelry lines sold exclusively through in-home fashion shows, also known as the party plan method of direct selling.
Sarah Coventry's fashion jewelry lines were created for the many sides of your life - the fashionable, the casual and the practical. Jewelry items were created to be versatile, and to accessorize a variety of new clothing styles and fashionable looks. Necklaces could be worn as belts, or looped several times to be worn as a bracelet. Pendants came off their chains to be worn as pins, and were reversible with a different design on the front and back. Numerous ideas for accenting a particular outfit or look were featured throughout company advertisements and jewelry packaging.
Stones for Sarah Coventry jewelry were glazed, re-glazed, and then glazed again for sparkle and durability. Pieces also included a smooth finish on both the front and the back. With an emphasis on fashion versatility, the jewelry was made to be worn in multiples, mixed and matched, and layered.
