Thomas Jefferson's plantation was know as Monticello and is located in Albermarle County near Charlottesville, Virgina. Jeffereson himself designed his home in a classic Roman style.

Built in 1768, it incorporated the many ideas Jefferson had obtained while traveling to Europe. Unlike other southern estates, Jefferson built his house on a leveled hill which hid the surrounding outer buildings. Four white columns provide an outstanding entrance to the home.
