Adam, Jeannette Glass Company, 1932-34

Jeannette’s Adam pattern continues to be one of the most collected patterns in Depression glass. There is a multitude of new collector’s seeking this pattern based upon the number of questions received about reproductions.  It seems only the butter dish has been reproduced.

Adam has Deco era shapes including triangles, squares, and linear lines, combined with a kind of Art Nouveau scrolled center motif of fern-like leaves surrounded by a festoon of petite flowers. Add to that the variety of pieces made in the line and the fact that it was only made for a three-year period, and you have several reasons for collecting Adam.

Specifics to know about Adam include that pitchers come with both square and round bases. The square has the motif on the base while the round has only concentric rings. These round-footed pitchers are usually very light in color and are sometimes ignored due to that. They are much rarer than their counterparts.

Candy and sugar lids are one and the same. Any round plates or saucers are considered rare. There are at least five different pieces found in crystal, i.e. pitcher, ashtray, coaster, divided relish, and grill plate and are truly rare.

Inner rim damage is very common for bowls, which have been used and stacked in cabinets for about 70 years. You don’t want to pay mint prices for damaged pieces so keep a close watch for Imperfections.

A particular rare pink butter dish top possesses both Adam (outside) motif and the Sierra (inside) mold design. Its one top having two designs and if you find one, it would bring top dollar in the marketplace.

Adam colors are pink, green, crystal, yellow and Delphite blue.
